Founded in 1978 by Rosemary Gladstar, and led today by director Rebecca Maxfield and a skilled and dedicated staff of teachers, CSHS continues in the spirit in which it was created. For those who can't make a full time commitment we offer a broad range of weekend series courses and one-day workshops. Successful graduates of our intensive program go on to the second year Community Herbalist Program and leave here with the knowledge they need to enter and contribute to the field of herbalism. Upon graduation students receive certificates of completion that are respected in the herbal community. CSHS is located on a lovely, 80 acre sanctuary known as Emerald Valley. Our campus includes classrooms, a garden with 400 herb species, a medicine making building and forested hiking trails. Forestville is an hour and a half drive north of San Francisco.

Florida School of Holistic Living

The Florida School of Holistic Living is a 501c3 nonprofit educational organization with the mission of cultivating sustainable community by empowering individuals through philosophy-in-practice education that promotes holistic living.

Our programming includes a comprehensive curriculum of plant-centered workshops, continuing education, and professional training. In addition to our classes, we provide the Central Florida community a space to connect with our community, build vibrant health, and deepen our relationship with the earth through our Community Garden, the Florida Herbal Conference, and ongoing special events.

Philosophy-in-practice education offers students the opportunity to “get their hands dirty.” We emphasize a holistic philosophy in all of our courses, a perspective which honors the whole person and their connection to their environment. We then seek to put that philosophy into practice through hands-on educational opportunities, taking our students into the field to connect with the subjects of which they are learning. By empowering our students with the knowledge and experience to live a more fulfilling, sustainable lifestyle, we hope to contribute to a more equitable, peaceful world for future generations.

Hawthorn & Honey School of Herbal Medicine

Deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest, Hawthorn & Honey offers seasonal apprenticeships and monthly workshops in Tacoma, WA. Come on a journey through our local forests, beaches, and mountains as we learn the art of herbalism in nature – as it’s intended – awakening our senses and connecting with the plants.

In this year-long apprenticeship, we’ll break the foundations of herbalism down piece by piece, through guided seasonal explorations where you’ll meet the plants in person, in-depth study on how the body works, and hands-on practice where you’ll synthesize everything you’ve learned in the kitchen.
Our students learn the history and medicinal uses of each plant and how to create a daily plant practice using meal preparation, meditation, journaling, and dream work. Each day our apprentices create new remedies, adding to their home apothecary, while also building a personal relationship with the plants through intuitive plant communication and personal ancestry research.

Through the many years that I’ve taught this seasonal apprenticeship, I’ve found that it’s not just about learning the art of herbalism. It’s the connection with nature, the relationship with the plants. They’re here to help you – whether it’s to heal your heart, rediscover yourself, or find your true path. The plants offer a grounding force apart from what people can offer us. This is what it’s really about…taking the time to build relationships with plants that will change your life.

Sacred Garden School

Sacred Garden School offers in-person and online classes. Our 3-year training program prepares students to see clients as professional consulting herbalists.

Foundational Herbology (Year 1)- this 9-month course offers a broad introduction to all aspects of herbalism- from medicine-making to botany to learning the elements and their correlation to the seasons and organs. For beginners or even experienced herbalists who want to connect more deeply with the plants and weave threads of wisdom into a holistic understanding of Nature.

Clinical Herbology (Year 2)- this year is a bit more rigorous. We explore the body systems, pathophysiology and our materia medica more deeply. We get into the art of intake, herb/drug interactions, phytochemistry and begin to practice our assessment skills. This program is only available to people who have completed Foundational Herbology or an equivalent program.

Practical Herbology (Year 3)- this is the year that we integrate everything that we have learned through real life practice. We primarily spend our time seeing clients- both as a group and individually. We refine our assessment skills, the art of formulating, and build towards the requirements for professional membership with the AHG.

In addition to the clinical training program, we also offer shorter workshops & retreats. Check out our website for more info!

Sacred Journey School of Herbalism

An herbalist is someone who lives at the edge between the world of people and the world of the plants. We are stewards of the medicinal plants, of the natural world, and of the Earth herself. Herbalists connect people with plants so that they may partner with them on a healing journey. Herbalists also train others who wish to learn this sacred craft. It is our sacred joy and honor to do the work we do. The path of the herbalist is, ultimately, a sacred journey.

Sacred Journey School of Herbalism reflects Ginger Webb’s deep love for the plants and for humanity; her study with the late great herbalist Michael Moore; her years of experience making plant-based medicines; her explorations of east Indian philosophies including Ayurveda, and the chakra system; her geeky passion for botany, wild plants, and plant families; her reverence for the wisdom of the ancients; and her belief that we all have access to the healing wisdom of the plant world simply by virtue of the fact that we are alive and share consciousness with all life.

In addition to the programs and classes taught by Ginger Webb, we offer classes throughout the year taught by guest teachers. To stay in the loop about new upcoming classes, please subscribe to our email newsletter at gingerwebb.com. We offer both in person and online learning courses.

Verse

Verse is an online herbalist certification program that guides you into becoming a Community Herbalist (year 1), Apprentice Herbalist (year 2), and a Clinical Herbalist (year 3). Each of these herbalist certifications is a stepping stone to becoming a practitioner of herbal medicine.
The process of becoming a herbalist encompasses connecting with your local bioregional healing plants, learning traditional diagnostic tools (e.g. pulse & tongue diagnosis), preparation of herbs into medicine, phytopharmacology, folklore, formulations, practitioner ethics, administering herbal medicine with precision, and self-care practices.
When you enter into the Verse Herbalist Certification program you will explore the diverse branches of herbal medicine and lifestyle practices that bring mind, body, and spirit into homeostasis. As you deepen your studies from Community Herbalist to Apprentice, then Clinical Herbalist, your depth of study builds upon itself, supporting the journey of graduating with the confidence to forge your own professional herbalist career.

Wildwood Institute, LLC

At Wildwood Institute, we have been Bringing the Plants to the People and the People to the Earth™ since 1996! We teach from the Four Directions of Information: Herbal Traditions, Science, Personal Experience, and Intuition; with Nature at the center.

Located just outside of Madison, WI, we offer one, two and three year Herbalist Apprenticeships. Classes are held one weekend per month in person, or online in inclement weather. Many students take just the first year, learning how to identify, make and use herbal medicines for themselves and loved ones. Others continue on for a deeper education, and exceptional students complete the entire program. More than half of our students each year travel two hours or more for the program, from Illinois, Iowa, Upper Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and Indiana.

For those of you interested in practicing as a Clinical Herbalist, we offer the only comprehensive, collegiate level in-person Clinical Herbalist program in the Upper Midwest, with options for clinical supervision online. An accelerated program is available for those who qualify.

Kathleen Raven Wildwood is a Clinical Herbalist, as well as the Founder & Director of Wildwood Institute, and has been teaching and practicing in western, scientific, and shamanic herbal traditions for over 25 years.

Come study with us in our beautiful rural Wisconsin woodland, garden, and prairie! Visit our website for more information.
